Association ARBITRI, in cooperation with CLDP, University of Sarajevo, Faculty of Law, the University of Pittsburgh School of Law co-organize a follow up three-day Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Oral Argument Training in Sarajevo, BiH on February 13-15, 2015. The program will feature presentations, video demonstrations, practice arbitration arguments, take-home assignments, and interactive practice and coaching sessions on the third and final phase of the Vis Moot: oral advocacy.

CLDP introduced the annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot to law schools around the world as a mechanism for the development of international commercial law and arbitration curricula. The Vis Moot, held in Vienna, Austria, is the pre-eminent international moot on commercial law and arbitration.  In 2014, teams from 290 universities and 64 countries took part in the written and oral advocacy competition.

The February sessions will be led by student advisors/Vis Moot alumni from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and members of Association ARBITRI. Students will continue to refine their Claimant and Respondent substantive and procedural arguments during two full days of practice arbitration arguments which will take place in front of panels of 3 arbitrators, some of who will come from the BiH legal community. Participants in the program will include student Vis Moot teams from the University of Sarajevo and the University of Zenica. Representatives from the University of Mostar Džemal Bijedić and the University of Istočno Sarajevo – who are interested in participating in next year’s Vis Moot – will also attend. The Pittsburgh advisor team and members of Association ARBITRI will accompany the two BiH Vis Moot teams to Vienna in April 2015 to provide guidance and coaching throughout the competition.

This program will strengthen legal education on international commercial law and arbitration in BiH and will in turn lead to the development of a critical mass of legal professionals in BiH, adept at effectively handling international commercial disputes and acquainted with arbitration as a modern method of dispute resolution.
